My name is Jo-Ann Fox and I am an elementary teacher. Since integrating technology into my primary and upper elementary classrooms, it has changed the face of my teaching style in more ways than I could list. It has motivated my students to harness their learning and helped me to promote innovation. My students are actively engaged, easily make connections to their learning, collaborate with their classmates, and internalize their learning through the use of technology.

My goal with AppEducation is to share with you how I am implementing 1:1 technology into my classroom. As I began the adventure of 1:1 implementation, I became overwhelmed with the amount of educational apps that are available out there. I quickly found so many apps are not worthy of my students’ time. I realized it is not just WHAT apps I use in the classroom, but HOW I use them to promote the 4 C’s: critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and to promote communication skills. As you set out on your journey to integrate technology into your classroom, come back and visit AppEducation.com often to research great ideas for the effective use of iPods or iPads in your classroom.

My district is committed to promoting innovative teaching and learning. I am a part of two Apple Distinguished Programs: the Project Live and iRead program. The Project Live program seeks to promote project based learning through the use of movie-making in the classroom. I have been a part of this program since 2010 and my class has won several awards for their student created movies. The iRead program is known world-wide as a successful program that utilizes iPods/iPads to promote reading comprehension. I am a mentor teacher for the iRead program and help teachers to effectively use 1:1 iPods and iPads in their classroom.
My current position is a Teacher on Special Assignment tasked to plan and design a new innovative school. The school I helped to design will be utilizing 1:1 iPads, STEAM, design thinking, and project based learning to design a student centered learning environment.
